An Attitude of Gratitude

I went to a funeral, yesterday. My aunt has moved on from this plane of existence, shuffled off this mortal coil, taken her final curtain call. Words were shared, memories passed on from one generation to the next. Some tears flowed, of course. Mostly, though, there was much rejoicing. You see, at 90, my aunt had lived a good, full life.

It struck me, as I was standing there, on the well-manicured cemetery grass, green with life but heavy with the memories of who have gone before, that there is so much for which I am truly grateful.

A life well lived. That is the point, is it not? Do what you love. Follow your passion. Live with fire in your heart. These holidays are so much more than just gifts. The truest gifts are those we share and build and grow throughout the year. On this last Thursday of 2016, I reflect on the one final gift my Aunt Sadie has given me, perhaps the greatest of all. The gift of perspective.

I am truly grateful for all that I have experienced in 2016. But, oh, how I am looking forward to making my 2017 incredible! Thank you, Aunt Sadie, for showing your Lamb what life is truly all about.

Here’s your quote of the day:

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
