Caiya’s Blog: Dreams of Harper

Hi, everyone. Caiya here. I was recently thinking about what the characters in Necromancers’ Pride are going through, and what their dreams and thoughts would be. One of my favorite characters is Harper, so I imagined what her dreams would be like.

Here is what I came up with. Hope you like it.

Until next time, stay posted!

 Dreams of Harper

“Harper?” I hear a voice call in the dark.
“Uncle?” I ask back.
“Harper. How I missed you so. I hope you are faring well,” he says, walking into the light next to me. He looks translucent.

“Oh, Uncle!” I say and run to him with open arms. As soon as I touch him, he starts to melt.

First his skin, then his muscles, bones, organs, everything. I collapse on the ground, sobbing. A dark figure rises out of the substance. I scramble back as I hear a deep, booming laugh.

“Harper. I see you have… made friends. That’s good. Better to make them owe when you die. Watch out. For the Pride shall be mine, and you can’t save her,” the dark figure says maniacally, laughing until he disappears in a wisp of black smoke.

I wake up from that awful nightmare. I pant and realize I’m sweating. Velladriana and Corwyn are looking at me suspiciously from across the campfire. I sit up from my uncomfortable coat-bed. The rest of our group is snoring like some cave-troll.

“Harper, are you okay?” Velladriana asks.

“Yes, I will be fine.” I say. I hear a deep laugh behind me in the trees. I am startled.

“Did you hear that?” I ask.

“Huh, I didn’t hear anything. Just go back to sleep; you’ll be safe with us. We will wake up in the morning,” Corwyn says.

“Indeed, Harper. You are fine. Just sleep,” Velladriana says.

“Okay. Thanks, Vell,” I say and I lay down. I can’t help but keep looking at the area where the laugh came from. The darkness of the night closes in like a hungry predator. I don’t go back to sleep. I just can’t.
